For the fifth year in a row, Total is sponsoring four Qatari students to participate in the Total Summer School in Paris alongside 120 students from all over the world.

The Summer School is running for six days, until June 27, and focuses on various opportunities and challenges facing the energy sector such as economic and geopolitical developments, energy diversification and environmental and corporate responsibility.

Prior to their departure, the students were invited to a reception at Total’s offices in Doha, where they met Guillaume Chalmin, Total’s managing director and Group representative, as well as other senior executives.

“The Total Summer School is an exclusive opportunity for university students who are interested in gaining more knowledge in the energy sector,” said Chalmin. “In addition to discussing major energy issues alongside international experts and students with similar educational backgrounds, the students will be exposed to a rich multicultural environment.”

During the summer school, the students will take part in roundtable discussions, presentations and workshops. They will also visit Total’s headquarters in Paris to meet the Group’s senior managers.

The Summer School will also give students the opportunity to meet potential recruiters and learn more about future career and internship opportunities at Total.

During their visit to Total’s offices in Doha, the four Qatari undergraduates spoke of their enthusiasm to be involved in the Summer School programme.

Studying International Politics at Georgetown University, Ali al-Buainain said he hoped to gain more exposure to world energy issues and learn about how countries co-operate on energy affairs.

Almaha al-Hammadi, who studies Culture and Politics at the same university, said she was encouraged to attend the Summer School by a friend who had participated in the programme before.

The two other students, Ghalia al-Noaimi, who studies Environmental Science at Qatar University (QU), and Nada al-Sulaiti, a Marketing student also at QU, both said they were hoping the Summer School would be a great learning experience and an opportunity to experience French culture and meet other students from around the world.

“As part of our strategy to give back to the Qatari community, we selected four talented students in order to further their interest in the energy sector as a whole,” said Yousef al-Jaber, head of CSR and Institutional Relations.

“This educational journey will enable them to learn more about this sector, Total Group and about future career opportunities within and beyond Total. We are confident that this experience will be a valuable platform for cultural, academic and professional exchange.”
