Qatar Airways (QA) will start flying to Tokyo Haneda International Airport today, its newest destination and part of the airline’s continuing expansion into the Far East.

Using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the new flight will double the national carrier’s daily service to Tokyo and it will also be the third into Japan, joining Osaka and Tokyo Narita International Airport.

Tokyo Haneda International Airport is one of two major airports that serve the Greater Tokyo area. In 2012 alone, it handled more than 66mn passengers.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker stressed that they are excited to further extend QA’s network in one of their most popular destinations.“We are very pleased that we are now able to provide both leisure and business passengers an additional option when flying into Tokyo,” he said.
