HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday issued the decree No.29 of 2014 adjourning the 42nd regular session of the Advisory Council.

The decree stipulates that the session is to be adjourned as of Sunday, 9th of the fasting month of Ramadan 1435 Hijra year, corresponding to July 6, 2014.

The decree is effective from its date of publication in the official gazette.

Earlier, the Advisory Council yesterday held its weekly meeting of its 42nd regular session at its White Palace premises under the chairmanship of the Speaker HE Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi.

HE Fahad bin Mubarak al-Khayareen, Secretary General of the Advisory Council, read the agenda which was then agreed upon. Then the Council endorsed the minutes of its previous session.

During the session, the Advisory Council discussed a report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee on a draft law exempting certain types of goods from customs duties. The Council decided to refer its recommendations thereon to the Cabinet.

The Council also discussed a report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee on a draft law exempting non-Qatari investors from paying taxes on their share of profits in some companies and investment funds.

The Council decided to refer the draft law to the relevant committee for further study, and then submit a supplementary report thereon to the Council..

 

Al-Rumaihi meets French official

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi met in Doha yesterday with Pierre Sellal, secretary general of the French ministry of foreign affairs, who is now visiting Qatar.

During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in addition to matters of common concern.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the two countries’ foreign ministries.

 

Ministers discuss educational ties

HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi, who is also Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC), met in Doha yesterday with Kevin O’Brien, minister of advanced education and skills in Newfoundland and Labrador province, Canada.

During the meeting, they discussed Qatar’s view for advancing education and higher education and means of boosting ties of educational co-operation between Qatar and Canada in general and between Qatar and Newfoundland and Labrador province in particular.

The meeting was attended by Canadian ambassador to Qatar Andre Dubois and a number of officials of the SEC and members of the delegation accompanying the Canadian minister.
