The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has won three design accolades at the Hospital Build and Infrastructure Middle East Awards 2014 held in Dubai.

HMC received the awards for its recently-refurbished skilled nursing facility at the Rumailah Hospital and the PET-CT Centre for Diagnosis and Research at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

Rumailah Hospital’s skilled nursing facility won  two honours — ‘best hospital design’ award and the ‘best healing environment’ award — while the NCCCR’s PET-CT Centre for Diagnosis and Research won the ‘best physical environment’ award.

HMC was shortlisted for 10 prizes across all eight award categories and was the only health organisation to collect more than one award.

In awarding two prizes to HMC’s skilled nursing facility, judges described the building as “a perfect design that is beyond expectation, having the opportunity to redefine long-term care in the Middle East”. The PET-CT Centre was described as “being modern yet culturally sensitive, delivering a harmonious and functional medical environment”.

HMC managing director Hanan al-Kuwari said: “We are honoured to have received these awards which recognise our efforts to enhance the patient experience through intelligent design. Creating healing environment in technologically advanced centres supports the high-quality care that our patients already receive at the HMC.

“We are focused on continuing to develop innovative and better healthcare solutions with the patient at the centre of everything we do.”

HMC facilities and workforce development chief Hamad Nasser Abdulla al-Khalifa and corporate communications executive director Ali al-Khater were in Dubai to accept the awards at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the Hospital Build and Infrastructure Middle East Exhibition and Congress 2014.

“HMC is honoured to receive these awards as acknowledgement of our drive for improvement and change. The organisation plays an important role in delivering these innovations for the benefit of patients and families and what we do now is important for the future health of Qatar’s population,” said al-Khalifa.
