Ooredoo has opened OASIS technology laboratory, a first-of-its-kind in the region, in Doha, which is a new facility for the development, testing and demonstration of original IT and communication solutions.

Ooredoo said the facility that was inaugurated by its Group chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani at the Ooredoo headquarters was the company’s latest contribution to Qatar’s knowledge-based economy.

OASIS, which stands for “Ooredoo Advanced Smart Innovative Solutions” is set to host some of the most advanced communication solutions and cutting-edge experimental technologies.

The OASIS lab has been equipped with a special “Business Lounge” to host events and meetings and is supported by the significant tele-presence technology hosted at the Ooredoo HQ.

Ooredoo’s launch of the OASIS lab is the latest in a series of significant investments by the company to enhance the range of services and solutions available to businesses in Qatar.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sheikh Abdullah said that he was proud  to see the “incredible” steps that Ooredoo had been taking to expand the range of technologies and solutions available to organisations in Qatar.

“Our investment in the OASIS facility will enable international technology companies and global innovators to bring their ideas to Qatar, test and refine them in our world-class network infrastructure, and launch them for customers in Qatar and across the region,” he pointed out.

Ooredoo Group CEO Dr Nasser Marafih said: “Ooredoo is quickly becoming a leading company in the region for data centre technologies such as cloud services, managed services and mobility applications. The opening of OASIS will provide a state-of-the-art testing environment for our customers, and create a key location in Qatar where Ooredoo is synonymous with innovation.

“In creating a new smart-space for development in Qatar, Ooredoo is looking to leverage its long-standing relationships with some of the world’s biggest technology companies, which can use the facilities to test and premier the next generation of smart solutions for enterprises across the region.”

Ooredoo Qatar CEO Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani said: “The OASIS lab is an important development for Ooredoo as we hope to make it the key knowledge-sharing space in Qatar. By using our ground breaking technology we can bring companies together from across the world to discuss key industry issues and services that can enrich our customer’s lives.”

Ooredoo Qatar chief operating officer Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed said: “Ooredoo has always been at the forefront of network solutions and services in the region, and the OASIS lab is yet another way we can offer smart initiatives for customers and businesses in Qatar. We are pushing forwarding to make Qatar one of the best connected countries in the world, and initiatives like OASIS will ensure it happens.”

The company launched the Ooredoo Data Centre as the region’s first-of-its-kind to provide a full range of enterprise hosting, managed and professional services for companies in Qatar and in neighbouring countries. It has continued to expand the capacity of the centre and the range of services available in parallel with the on-going growth of Qatar’s dynamic economy.

Ooredoo chief new business officer Sheikh Nasser Hamad Nasser al-Thani said: “The launch of OASIS is a milestone for Ooredoo and a breakthrough for our new line of business team. This is a one-of-a-kind centre of excellence, which deploys the power and capacity of Ooredoo’s core network technologies to provide a platform for creation and development.”

Most recently, Ooredoo announced the launch of an “Out of Country Disaster Recovery” (DR) for enterprises and other major companies. DR service links enterprises’ data centres with managed hosting and co-location support to three global sites in East Asia (Singapore), Europe (London), and America (Santa Clara).

By providing companies with an instant link to top tier data centres around the world, the service ensures that companies will always have access to their systems and the capacity to recover all data.

The DR solution is the kind of innovative service that Ooredoo will be working to test and develop at the new OASIS lab.
