Maersk Oil Qatar has invited young, inquiring minds to visit the company’s stall at the Qatar Petroleum (QP) Environmental Fair this week to learn more about why water is one of the energy industry’s most vital resources.

The eighth QP Environmental Fair will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre and is open to schools and the general public from today until April 26.

HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and CMD of QP, will officially inaugurate the event that aims to educate and promote awareness about environmental issues, in particular among Qatar’s youth. Activities and play areas focus on highlighting the importance of water within the oil and gas industry.

“We are proud to partner again with QP in one of the key environmental events in Qatar and to promote environmental sustainability within our business,” said Lewis Affleck, managing director of Maersk Oil Qatar.

Maersk Oil’s specialists will explain, via an interactive game, how water injection technology works and continues to be of critical importance in extracting oil from the complex Al Shaheen field. By injecting around 800,000 barrels of water per day into its reservoirs – equivalent to 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools - the company can successfully maintain reservoir pressure and help “sweep” or push oil into its production wells.

Visitors to the Maersk Oil stand at the fair can speak to the company’s specialists to learn more about the many ways in which water is important to Qatar’s energy industry.
