Some of the residents in the Msheireb area said that the electricity connection has been temporarily restored. Kahramaa on Sunday had started disconnecting the electricity supple in some of the accommodations in the area.

Speaking to Gulf Times, a resident said that some of the people living in the area had petitioned the officials concerned yesterday.

“I am not fully aware of the details of the discussions. But I am told that power has been restored as per the discussions and on humanitarian grounds for a few days. How long will it last, I have no idea.”

He also said that the buildings for eviction have been marked separately.

“All these building have been numbered. Yellow stickers with number have been placed on all the buildings that are meant for eviction,” he added.

Gulf Times had earlier reported that the Kahramaa had disconnected the power supply to the area on Sunday. Subsequently Kahramaa had advised all the affected people to contact the organisations concerned. Kahramaa had also pointed out that it was abiding by the instructions of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning.

The power disconnection had affected thousands of low income expatriates in the area. Most of them are employees of the shops in the affected area.
