International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) will present the findings of its research highlighting the scale and scope of sport corruption, betting and betting fraud at the Sorbonne- ICSS Sport Integrity Forum to be held in May this year.

“The research was conducted jointly with Sorbonne University,” ICSS president Mohamed Hanzab told Gulf Times on the occasion of celebrating the third anniversary of  the centre.

“The results will include the first-ever in-depth assessment of the scale and scope of sport corruption, sport betting and betting fraud,” he stated, while explaining that the nearly 1,000-page report gave thorough information on match-fixing and how to handle it.

“There are many recommendations in the report. From this forum, we must take the agenda forward for an international convention to protect sport.”

The Sorbonne- ICSS Integrity Forum will be held in Paris in May with official support of Unesco and Council of Europe.

It will bring together more than 400 international experts and decision-makers from the world of sport, government, integrity and beyond.

Hanzab noted that last three years were very eventful and the co-operation from the clients, partners and friends of ICSS had made it remarkable.

“Since its inception in March 2011, the ICSS has made a significant impression in the business of sport, offering specialist advice to a range of organisations in the area of sport safety security and integrity.”

“The ICSS and its team of security and integrity specialists have signed several key agreements with leading major event organisers, federations and associations as well as working on a number of international events and  projects,” he pointed out.

ICSS, over the past three years, has partnered with a number of leading organisations in Qatar and abroad.

They include Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, European Professional Football Leagues, Deutsche Football Liga, World Bank, Unicef Brazil, Lega Pro, Qatar Football Association, among many others.

The centre also has involved in a number of high-profile events and integrity cases.

The ICSS’s sport integrity team  played a significant role in the Victoria Police’s investigation into the match-fixing in Australia.

The ICSS annual conference “Securing Sport” has grown considerably over the last three years. ICSS  hosted several high-level events and forums over the last 12 months.

It has also  held high-level forums at the United Nations in Geneva and the European Parliament in Brussels, presenting the importance of sport integrity before influential politicians and policy-makers.
