As part of its family programme offerings, Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) is presenting a series of workshops for three days from tomorrow across Doha in collaboration with a number of cultural and educational institutions.

The workshops will include puppet-making and storytelling sessions where families will be able to choose from many opportunities to create, make and tell stories. This will also give parents and children the chance to work with local artists and storytellers.

The event is aimed towards families with children aged 3-11 years old and will provide opportunities for inter-generational learning and engagement.

The “Makers Event” will be held in partnership with Children’s Literature Centre, Childhood Cultural Centre, the QMA Public Art Department, Museum of Islamic Art, National Museum of Qatar, Msheireb Museums, Qatar National Library (QNL), Qatar Foundation Community Services, Hyatt Plaza Mall and QMA Family Programmes.

“Puppets are a creative and hands-on way to tell stories,” said Jessica Ludwig, head of families at QMA. “The ‘Makers Event’ will offer families the chance to show their skills and imagination, crafting puppets and telling stories inspired by Qatar’s mangroves, museum collections, Qatari artists, their own lives and more.”

Carol Mitchell, head of Children’s Services at QNL, said creativity and storytelling are important in developing and encouraging a love of reading in children, and Qatar National Library and Qatar Foundation Community Services are excited to be providing a unique “Makers Event” in Education City at the QF Recreation Centre.

“Giving children the opportunity to make their own puppets and then create puppet shows is not only fun, but also builds their narrative skills,” she added.

The schedule is as follows: Thursday (February 20) - 2pm to 5pm, QMA Katara Art Gallery, Building 10, and 4pm to 6pm, Aaqool Atrium, Qatar Foundation Recreation Centre, Education City;  Friday (February 21) - 4pm to 7pm, Hyatt Plaza Mall, food court, and 4pm to 7pm, Museum of Islamic Art foyer; and Saturday (February 22) - 3pm to 5pm, Msheireb Enrichment Centre.
