There are around 400 Cuban health practitioners in Qatar who work at the Cuban Hospital in Dukhan, Cuba’s Ambassador to Qatar Ernesto D Plesencia has disclosed.
In an interview with Gulf Times, the Cuban envoy said that Cuba was known the world over for its fabulous healthcare system and medical professionals.
A very small community of Cubans resides in Qatar and the envoy revealed that a large majority of them are employed at the hospital as doctors, nurses, technicians and specialists in a variety of fields.
As one of Hamad Medical Corporation’s newest general hospitals, it is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and serves Dukhan and its surrounding communities.
The introduction of this facility has positively impacted the local community and provided residents with an option to receive quality healthcare close to their home. The population that the Cuban Hospital serves is expanding and this facility has been designed to accommodate the growing health needs.
The envoy termed the hospital as a shining example of the strong relations between Qatar and Cuba. He said the bilateral relations continue to be “excellent.”
The hospital prides itself on being a prime example of a highly comprehensive healthcare system and on being a facilitator of disease prevention and health education for the communities of the western district of Qatar.
As a general hospital, it offers a variety of healthcare services such as: cardiology, dental, dermatology, diabetes, ear, nose and throat, emergency services for children and adults, general medicine (including endocrine and gastro-intestinal), general surgery, intensive care for adults (medical and surgical), Maxillo-facial, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, paediatric medicine, rehabilitation, urology and vascular surgery.
