A British teacher is feared dead after going missing in Qatar, British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mirror reported yesterday.
Lauren Patterson, 24, vanished in the early hours of Saturday morning shortly after returning to Doha from the UK, where she had attended her grandmother’s funeral.
The primary school teacher, from Chislehurst, southeast London, was last seen outside a five-star hotel in Doha around 1.20am on Saturday, said www.mirror.co.uk, the online edition of The Daily Mirror.
Worried friends posted Lauren’s picture on social media in a desperate bid to trace her after she had been missing for more than 40 hours.
Just hours after appealing for help in finding her, Lauren’s boyfriend James Grima took to Facebook to share the news that his girlfriend had died.
According to the daily, he wrote: “I can’t believe that it had to end this way Lauren, I really don’t. I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could change my life so much, and in such a positive way too.
“I love you so so so much Lauren, I am never ever going to forget you and you will always have a place in my heart as you truly were the most amazing and beautiful person ever.
“Gonna miss you so much I don’t know how I can ever stop thinking about you.......Rest In Peace babe...I will always look up at the sky cause you always were the brightest star and always will be.”
Grima also shared a picture of Lauren with two of her young students, adding that he chose the snap “because it shows the real you, doing what you did best.”
“I love you so much babe, I really do and I can’t get over the fact that you were taken away so cruelly, it really breaks my heart to think about it.”
Lauren’s mother is believed to be flying to Doha to formally identify her daughter’s body, The Daily Mirror said.
The Foreign Office confirmed it was aware of Patterson’s disappearance but were unable to comment further.
A spokeswoman said: “We are aware of a British national, Lauren Patterson, reported missing in Qatar. We are providing the family with consular assistance,” the daily added.
