Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) will launch Master’s programmes in a couple of years, dean and CEO Dr Everette E. Dennis has said.
He was interacting with the media on the new initiatives of NU-Q at the studio of the university in Education City yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by Journalism Programme director and associate professor at NU-Q Mary Dedinsky  and professor of Middle Eastern studies at NU-Q Khaled Hroub.
Dean Dennis said the university wanted to start Master’s programmes soon. “It is our hope to start Master’s degree programmes in a couple of years. There are proposals on the table for that,” he explained, adding that the university was planning to work with other universities within Education City for the same and the courses would be designed according to the demand.  
The dean also said the university wanted to work with the local community. “We are developing a continued talent pool and supporting the growing media interest in the country. We want to be a member of the community and promote the independent media that has evolved in Qatar,” he said, pointed out that the university was interested in promoting the entertainment sector and new media in the country.
The official said the construction of the new building for the university was well on course. “It will be a premier facility of its kind. There will be an observatory gallery and a museum of past, present and future media communication,” However, he did not disclose when the new building would be ready.
Dennis highlighted various research programmes going on at NU-Q and provided insight into the university’s research agenda. He also spoke about the efforts of the university to develop media instruction to the region’s future media leaders in a rapidly changing Arab world.
There will be a number of events and visits of the university during the present semester. Daniel IH Linzer, provost of Northwestern University, will visit the campus along with a number of university officials next month.
