Ooredoo is supporting a wide variety of events related to World Environment Day (WED) as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
This year’s theme for World Environment Day (observed on June 5) is “Think.Eat.Save”, an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages people to reduce their food footprint.
In Qatar, WED has been celebrated since 2007. This year’s events are co-sponsored by Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) and International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID).
The WED activities started on May 17 with the eco-fashion design contest at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. The participants showcased innovative designs by turning recyclable materials into fashion.
Then, on May 24 and 25, FEC hosted a painting contest with participants from more than 80 schools, along with a seminar on sustainable consumption by a nutritionist from IAID.
The WED celebrations will close on June 7 with a range of activities, including an art exhibition, a fashion show, awards presentation, speeches and performances at Al Rayyan Theatre in Souq Waqif.
As part of its environmental initiatives, Ooredoo has pioneered electronic waste recycling.
