In an address to diplomats during a reception held at his residence, Venezuelan ambassador to Qatar Juan Antonio Hernández demanded that the US “stop meddling” in his country’s affairs after Nicolas Maduro’s democratic victory in the April 14 polls.

“(They called it) a fraud without any evidence or proof, and immediately the US refused to recognise President Nicolas Maduro,” he said, adding that the electoral process was recognised by several organisations, including the Carter Center.

He said the “interference was aimed at creating chaos and uncertainty in the hearts of the Venezuelan people” after the death of former president Hugo Chavez, with the sole objective of tipping power to “corrupt right (wing) party agents”.

“On April 15, the opposition, under orders from defeated candidate (Henrique) Capriles, unchained (widespread) violence against Chavist people, public health institutions, the Bolivarian government food supply network and (there was) huge material damage. The US and its media network were deliberately hiding these facts,” he said. “We demand to the US government not to interfere in Venezuela’s internal affairs, to respect our institutions, people and President Maduro.”
