Bad experience at Wakrah beach

Dear Sir,

I have been in Qatar for the last four years and it has been a pleasant stay in general.  That is why an experience I have had recently has come as bit of a shock to me.
On  May 22, my family and I went to the Wakrah family beach along with two of my colleagues. We reached the beach around 4.30pm but the weather was quite hot.
We couldn’t find a  shaded place to sit and relax and decided to bring our cars close to the beach and park them in a way that our families and children could find some shade and enjoy the time there. There were around 25-30 other cars parked just like ours on the beach at that time.
Soon one gentleman came in his SUV and asked us a bit rudely to move our cars and park further from the beach.  We requested him to let us have this arrangement for a while, assuring him that we would move the vehicles later.  But he never listened to our appeals and insisted that  we move our cars. Although he kept roaming around, asking others too to move their cars,  no one did.
We have always respected the law in Qatar and appreciated its equal implementation but this discrimination against us came as a surprise and we had no other option but to accept it.

Daylight saving time is not a good idea

Dear Sir,

In reference to the letter “Introduce daylight saving time in Qatar” (Gulf Times, May 26),  I feel that it is not an idea worth considering at all.
Some people do support the use of daylight saving; they say it saves energy.
First suggested by Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States, in 1784, daylight saving time was even then  shot down by many  people as being pointless.
Then, in the First World War, it was introduced - first by the Germans - to save coal during war time.
But several new studies, most of them readily available on the Internet, suggest that the daylight saving time is not a good proposition and doesn’t do any good.
