Dear Sir,

I disagree with the proposal put forward in the letter “Monitor schools” (Gulf Times, March 19). People should always respect each other’s feelings and views. We say there should not be any discrimination between girls and boys. How can we then ask for the kind of restrictive rules that the letter writer wants in our society?
I feel that if we give our children more authority with responsibility, it will keep them away from unethical activities.
If we disallow open interaction between boys and girls in schools then surely we are going to make them more curious about the opposite sex.
Rather parents should be open to understand their children’s feelings and help them form better and healthy outlooks.

Need to protect our children

Dear Sir,

With reference to the letter “A biased view” (Gulf Times, March 22), I would like to once again mention that different cultures have different social values. It may not be immoral to see boys and girls interacting closely in public for some people but that kind of reaction is not universal. I agree that my views can be considered “biased” by some and “appropriate” by others.
I never declared that all students in co-education schools are immoral; it cannot be. I expressed my concern after some students and parents raised this issue on social media sites, a place where one can freely exchange views.
The secondary school children are at a tender age and can be misled easily. I consider no harm in protecting our children from evil-minded people.

Wastage of resources

Dear Sir,

The authorities in Qatar  are working  hard to keep the city clean, healthy and naturally green. The government is aware about the need to protect the environment and to achieve this a lot of efforts, in terms of both human and material, are utilised. But at times we still witness the wastage of precious natural resources.
The other day I saw a sprinkler dutifully performing its duty somewhere in Doha despite the grass around it  being already submerged under water.
We can conserve our valuable resources only by intelligent handling and not by just leaving them on automatic settings.
