Five Indian nationals from a family, including two children, were killed and two minors were injured when their car plunged 200m down a gorge in Nepal on Sunday, police said.
The jeep in which the family from Jharkhand were travelling skidded off the road in an accident-prone area at Simkhola, Kulekhani on the Kathmandu-Hetauda route in Makwanpur district, according to district police chief Sisu Sharma.
Ghanshyam Prasad (60) and Deviyanti Devi (63) died on the spot, while Basantosh Teda (60), Riya Barman (10) and Piyas Barman (10) - all members of a family from Ranchi - succumbed to their injuries in a Kathmandu hospital.
The injured children - eight-year-old Aryan Barman and 12-year-old Rishi Barman - were undergoing treatment at Vayodha Hospital in Kathmandu.
There were seven people in the car when the accident took place, but it was not immediately known who was driving the vehicle which was on its way to the capital Kathmandu.
INDIAN PICNICKER DROWNS:
An Indian tourist, who had been missing for last four days, has died from drowning in a river near Nepal border, police said yesterday.
The body of Li Khan was recovered from Mahakali river in Western Nepal’s Kanchapur district on Sunday.
Khan, a resident of Manipur, had drowned in the river while taking a bath on Thursday, according to a local media report.
His body was found on the riverbank near Hattisar Ghat in Piparaiya, Bhimdutta Municipality-13 on Sunday, police said, adding that Khan along with his five friends was in the country for a picnic.
