The city-based specialty hospital cluster Aster Medcity promoted by Dubai-based DM Healthcare has received the coveted Gold Seal approval from the Joint Commission International (JCI).
The award is in recognition for exceptional standards in healthcare and patient safety, the group said here on Thursday.
Aster is the second hospital group in Kerala to receive the JCI accreditation, known as the gold standard in global healthcare. So far, 21 hospitals in India, including the two have received the US agency’s recognition.
It is awarded only to the best hospitals in the world after identifying, measuring and sharing the best practices in overall quality, patient safety and employee safety.
Aster Medcity won the accreditation based on the latest and the most stringent evaluation standards that measured a total of 1,145 elements.
It is the first quaternary care hospital in Kerala to receive the honour. JCI president and CEO Paula Wilson handed over the documents to Aster Medcity chairman Dr Azad Moopen and CEO Dr Harish Pillai.
Apart from the JCI accreditation, Aster Medcity has also achieved India’s national NABH accreditation, first ever NABH award for excellence in nursing and Green OT Certification by Bureau Veritas within a year of its operations.
Dr Moopen said the JCI accreditation was a great honour and that the hospital would continue to maintain its world-class quality standards in every sphere of healthcare, including patient and employee safety.
He also informed that the Joint Commission International, in the audit report, has appreciated the entire team of Aster Medcity for their calibre and in-depth knowledge.
“In a nutshell, it is the reaffirmation of the fact that we are doing all that we can to live up to our simple promise: We’ll Treat You Well,” he said.
Dr Pillai said the JCI recognition upheld the hospital’s commitment to excellence, and was a milestone that will keep inspiring the Aster Medcity team to deliver the very best of healthcare to the community.
“JCI will also provide constant support and education services that would be beneficial for both patients and the staff,” he said.
Aster Medcity is a 670-bed quaternary care facility set in a 40-acre waterfront campus located in Cheranelloor in this port city.
It has a multi-speciality hospital and eight dedicated centres of excellence in cardiac sciences, neurosciences, orthopaedics and rheumatology, nephrology and urology, oncology, women’s health, child and adolescent health and gastroenterology and hepatology.
Aster DM Healthcare has 290 facilities across eight countries, including the GCC and Africa.
