Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) has announced that it received two awards during the International District Energy Association’s (Idea) 106th Annual Conference and Trade Show 2015 held in Boston from June 28 to July 1.
Qatar Cool vice president (commercial) Mohannad Khader represented the company to receive two 2014 Space Awards for “Total Area Committed” and for “Total Number of Buildings Committed.”
Qatar Cool CEO Yasser S al-Jaidah said, “We are proud to put the name of Qatar in this international district energy forum. To win another two significant awards from Idea and to be recognised among our industry peers are great tributes to our dedication to excellence in the industry. We are confident that our new plant, once operational, will take Qatar Cool and the district cooling industry in Qatar to new heights.”
Khader added, “Customers have realised the benefits of district cooling, which is apparent by the increasing number of singed and connected buildings every year. We are certain that the governmental agencies concerned recognise these benefits, especially considering the incurred savings in power generation and reductions in Qatar’s carbon footprint.”
The new awards recognise the growth Qatar Cool witnessed in the number of buildings and total area connected to district cooling such as the West Bay district where Qatar Cool currently owns and operates two plants, the company said.
According to Qatar Cool, its third plant in The Pearl-Qatar district is considered the largest district cooling plant in the world.
For several consecutive years, Qatar Cool won the same awards for its efforts in connecting more buildings to its district cooling network in both districts.
The company has also been recognised for the number of buildings and space committed to district cooling outside of North America since its inception in 2003, owing to the increasing space served through its three operational plants, which deliver more than 197,000 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) in both the West Bay and The Pearl-Qatar districts combined.
The International District Energy Association is a non-profit trade association founded in 1909 to facilitate the exchange of information among district energy professionals.
Today, Idea has more than 2,000 members in 25 countries, and is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors.
Qatar Cool has been an active member of the association since 2003 and has won multiple international awards, including the Best District Cooling System in the World award for both districts served in 2012 and 2014.
It was also recognised by Kahramaa’s “Tarsheed” programme for energy efficiency for its energy conservation efforts in industrial buildings in Qatar. Most recently, the company was recognised as the “Best District Cooling Utility Provider 2014” by Climate Control Middle East magazine.
