Total is set to showcase its commitment to health, safety, and environment (HSE) in Qatar through its sponsorship of the 7th Middle East HSE & Sustainable Development Conference and Exhibition.

The event will be held from September 22 to 24 at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.

“This is a unique opportunity to come together and participate in fruitful discussions on various issues that influence the oil and gas sector today, especially in the Middle East,” said Guillaume Chalmin, managing director, Total E&P Qatar and Group representative.

Chalmin said Total will showcase the company’s expertise and initiatives in safety and environment at its booth, which has been designed specifically for the event.

He added that a number of Total’s delegates from Qatar and worldwide affiliates will be participating in the exhibition and conference, including Total E&P Qatar’s HSE manager Mohamed Basser, who is this year’s chairperson for the programme’s environment committee.

Basser will also be a co-chair in two of the technical programme sessions: “How to Change Culture to Support Operations Effectiveness” and “Safety Culture and Behaviour-based Safety.” Total E&P Qatar’s delegates, Andi Suliono and Hend Hassan, will present the “Comparative Study Between Manual Calculation and Infrared Camera for Fugitive Emissions Quantification.”

Other experts from Total who will participate in the conference include Yousef al-Jaber, head of institutional relations and CSR in Total E&P Qatar, who will be a panelist in “Sustainability Reporting Within Middle East, while Emmanuel Garland, senior HSE adviser, will be a moderator in the “Best Practices in Water Management” session.

Carbon capture and storage coordinator Dominique Copin will be a panelist in the “Climate Change” session while delegates from Total E&P Indonesia and Total Abu Kosh will be present during the “Environmental Impact” session.

“Total has committed itself to supporting such initiatives undertaken in Qatar to address HSE challenges as safety is part of our culture at Total,” Chalmin stressed.

He added that Total has had a continuous presence in Qatar for close to 80 years and is the only international oil company active in all branches of Qatar’s oil and gas sector. This includes exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, and the marketing of lubricants.
