Three Qatar-based Nepalese organisations organised their conventions this week.
The Gorkha Service Society (GSS) organised its eighth convention, which was chaired by its president Asha Bahadur Gurung at Homeland Restaurant. Representatives from different organisations were present during the programme. GSS representatives detailed the society’s activities in the past one year, particular the relief activities that GSS carried out in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake in Nepal.
GSS patron, Pandey contributed QR200,000 to Gorkha denizens and to help rebuild a school. Community leaders Shree Krishna Bhattarai, Budwal Gurung, Sudarshan Bhatta, Ramji Khatri, Om Raj Gurung, Indira Shah, Imanjung Baniya, Deepak Lamichhane, Dhan Raj Gurung and Ganandar Neupane were also honoured for their contributions to Gorkha district.
GSS also elected its new working committee led by Sudarsan Bhatta. Deepak Lamichhane and Rakesh Shrestha were elected the first and second vice-presidents. Om Raj Gurung was elected as general secretary, Pursottam Neupane as secretary, and Nawaraj Simkhada as the treasurer. Budwal Gurung was elected as patron and Asha Bahadur Gurung as chief adviser. Rajendra Parajuli, Akassari Punaru, Ranbahadur Gurung, Topbahadur Khadka, Janu Thapa Magar, Suresh Babau shrestha, Prem Bahadur Gurung, Purna Gurung and and Sishir Gurung were elected as the new members of GSS.
Nuwakot Service Society (NSS) held its fourth general convention at Top Form Restaurant. The convention was chaired by president Hari Krishana Rimal and community leader TB Karki was present as the guest of honour. Established in 2006, NSS has built schools, roads and provided educational materials to disadvantaged children in its home district.
NSS also elected its new working committee, with Hari Kumar Rimal re-elected as the president. Hari Ram Khadka was elected as the first vice-president, Sumitra Lamichhane as the second vice-president, Bishnu Bhandari as the general secretary, Surendra Rimal as secretary and Deep Dhakal as treasurer. Nandaram Subedi, Ajit Thapa, Goma Khadka, Bikash Shrestha, Bal Krishna Giri, Bod Kumar Tamang and Babu Ram Paklural were made members of NSS.
The Non-Resident Nepalese Bhujel Society (NRNBS) organised its third general convention at Al Nakhan Restaurant. During the convention, Bhujel community performed different cultural dances wearing traditional attires. The programme was chaired by President Shree Niyam Bhujel. Shiya Ram Chaudhary, president of Nonresident Nepalese Federation of Indigenous Nationalities-Qatar (NNFIN) was the chief guest.
Niyal Bhujel became president of the new working committee of NRNBS. Milan Kumar Bhujel was elected the first vice-president, Kesav Kumar Bhujel the second vice-president, Shiva Kumar Bhujel the general secretary, Dhan Bahadur Bhujel the secretary, Bir Bahadur Bhujel the treasurer and Santosh Bhujel was elected as the co-treasurer. Arjun Bujel, Gita Bujel, Tej Bahadur Bujel, Arun Bujel, Khadka Bahadur Bujel, Chabi Bujel, Arjun Bujel, Chitra Bahadur Bujel, Purna Gharti, Yuraj Bhujel, Roshan Bujel, Volaraj Bujel and Devi Bujel were elected as members of the new NRNBS working committee.
