There are about 400 engineers from Nepal working in Qatar. They got together recently under the umbrella of the Nepal Engineers Association-Qatar (NEAQ) to mark the 52nd Engineer’s Day at Asiana Hotel on the Old Airport Road.

The programme was chaired by Shrawan Kumar Jha, president of NEAQ. The guests at the event included Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, the Acting Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar; Arjun Bhattarai, former NEAQ president; Maksud Aalam, NRN president; R K Deo, president of the Safety Awareness Center; and Rakesh Soni, IOE President. Established in Qatar in 2004, NEAQ has been celebrating the day since 2005.

Acting Ambassador Dhakal inaugurated the programme by lighting a candle. The participants stood silent in memory of Narayan Choudhary (founding president of the Nepal Engineers Association), victims of natural disaster in Nepal and war in Iraq in Gaza.

Sanjay Das presented a paper on “Who do you see yourself—Manager or Leader?” The focus of his presentation was to encourage NEAQ members to work on their leadership abilities.

Das, a chartered engineer from the UK, is currently working with KEO Rail Group in Doha.

The acting ambassador praised the Qatari government for providing opportunities to Nepali engineers. They, he said, have helped boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

SAC President RK Deo talked about the need for increasing safety awareness among Nepali workers in Qatar.

Other guests and members of NEAQ also spoke on the occasion.

The programme got its colour from a dance performance that had been prepared by a group of kids, Susant Deep, Udity Shah, Bhumika Shah, Khusi Shah, Aushi Shah, Rohit Shah and Viroj Shah. — Text and photos: Usha Wagle Gautam
