The third edition of the Basant Mela organised by Pakistan Women’s Association in the first week of March attracted about 10,000 people. The festival, organised in association with Dhoom Events, was targeted at families and held at Wakrah Stadium.

The festival started at 4pm with a live dhol performance after the Isha prayers. The dhol player went around the venue playing the instrument, entertaining the attendees.

Doha-based music artists Shoaib Balouch and Abdulla Javed also performed at the event, thrilling the crowd with their electrifying performance.

Quiz games also attracted a number of people, with the winners taking away premium luggage bags and designer ladies suits.

The organisers also gave away a free diamond ring and two return airfare tickets.

A large showcase of Pakistani and Indian dresses, jewelleries and bags were on sale for the visitors. The venue had live BBQ and ethnic foods on offer as well.

A dedicated area was reserved for kids, where they enjoyed a number of free bouncy rides, henna designing, face painting and sand art.

A much-praised Pashto folk dance by the volunteers ended the event.

Rahat Mansoor, PWA President, said: “We are delighted that Basant Mela has become one the most popular and the most awaited events of the year. We’ve also noticed a huge rise in the turnout, with different communities, particularly from the Indian Subcontinent, participating in this colourful event. We are very proud & thankful to State of Qatar and Embassy of Pakistan for their community support.”
