Elderly women in wheelchairs enjoy a warm spring day outside their rooms at a nearby retirement hospice in Beijing.  China has an ageing society, with people above 60 years numbering more than 200mn in 2013.  It is estimated that by 2053, about 488 million Chinese will be older than 60, accounting for one-fourth of the world’s senior citizens.  Combined with the effects of the one-child policy, China now faces a rapidly ageing population and shrinking workforce.
