The Bangladesh Supreme Court will deliver its verdict any day in the war crimes appeals case of death row convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee.

The five-member bench led by Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain passed the order yesterday. The same bench of the apex court has rejected two petitions of both the government and the defence which thought of calling the documents of Ibrahim Kutti’s murder case.

The appeal hearing of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee ended on Tuesday. The apex court set Wednesday to give orders for the appeal petitions filed by both state and defence in regards to producing the documents of Ibrahim Kutti’s murder, for which the Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee was given the death penalty.

The state pleaded for Sayedee’s death while the defence appealed for his acquittal to the court. On February 28 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal 1 awarded death to Sayedee in two among 20 charges of war crimes brought against him.

Six other charges were also proven beyond doubt. However, no sentencing followed for what the court said he had already been given death penalty.

Sayedee moved to the apex court with an appeal against the verdict on March 28 seeking acquittal while the state appealed for his death sentence in all the six charges. Hearing in the case began on September 24 last year.

The bench has so far disposed of one appeals case, against war criminal Abdul Quader Molla, while four other cases are pending.
