Sunil K Alagh and Dr Mahim Mendis will make presentations at a seminar to be organised by the Indian Management Association (Qatar chapter

Two senior level management and humanities professionals from India and Sri Lanka will make presentations at a seminar to be organised by the Indian Management Association (Qatar chapter) as part of the professional body’s 10th annual celebrations at Gokulam Park Doha Hotel on December 28.
It is scheduled for start at 7pm.
Disclosing this yesterday, rights activist and president of the Indian Management Association (Qatar chapter) Nizar Kochery said former CEO and Managing Director of Britannia Industries Limited Sunil Kumar Alagh and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Open University of Sri Lanka Dr Mahim Mendis will speak on relevant issues linked to  the ongoing economic turmoil at the global level.
Alagh, who is currently the chairman of his own consultant firm SKA Advisors (Pvt) Limited, Mumbai, will talk on “winning growth- turbulent economies” and Dr Mendis’ topic would be  “entrepreneurship-turbulence economies”.
During Alagh’s stewardship, Britannia figured in the Forbes Magazine list of 300 best small companies in the world for three years, in 1999, 2000 and 2002. When Britannia became the No 1 food brand in India, Alagh was its CEO.  He had a tenure of 14 years in Britannia Limited until his retirement in 2003
Currently, Alagh is on the board of directors of Gati Limited and United Breweries Ltd, the latter a joint venture between Scottish and Newcastle Plc, UK, and Mallya Group.
A former president of All India Management Association (AIMA), Alagh is also on the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Dr Mendis has been a recipient of many honours and accolades at the international level, including the Chevening Scholarship for PG studies, awarded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the British Government, Post Graduate Scholarship by the University Grants Commission of India (1995), a National University of Singapore Doctoral Scholarship (1999-2002) and US State Department Award for Training in Good Governance at the University of North Illinois, USA (2004).
An ardent advocate of a liberal academic culture and healthy competition in the higher education sector, Dr Mendis is also the main spokesman of the Federation of University teachers in Sri Lanka.
According to Kochery, ambassadors of South Korea, India and Sri Lanka are expected to attend the anniversary meeting.
Along with Indian management professionals from Qatar, their counterparts from other communities are also taking part, said the management association chief.
