Participants in the inaugural ‘Run the World Youth Conference
As part of the inaugural ‘Run the World’ festival currently taking place at Katara, nearly 100 people participated in the ‘Run the World Youth Conference’ this week, discussing a number of issues related to sports in Qatar.
Delegates were separated into four committees on different subjects, including educational sport, community engagement, sport professionalism and promoting sport.
“Each committee addressed a specific issue faced in Qatar’s sports world,” explained a spokesperson, adding “the objective of the conference was to find solutions and new ideas for developing youth in Qatar through sport.”
Teams were supervised by Tamer Usman, from the Bedaya Centre, sales director of the Youth Company, Diego Pinzon, and Bedaya Centre and Silatech’s country operations consultant, Des Ryan, as well as Saleh al-Khulaify and Ikram Hamdad.
The conference was opened by the director of the Qatar Olympic and Sport Museum, Christian Wacker, who said: “We would like to thank all the participants who attended and gave their contribution to the first edition of Run The World Youth Conference.”
He gave a special thank you to the Bedaya Centre and Silatech for providing experts and speakers who offered their expertise for the project.
“In addition we are really grateful to all representatives of our partners who came today to support this youth initiative,” he added.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, a number of projects recommended by the committees were presented to the audience, with officials explaining that at least one of the initiatives will be implemented over the coming year.
CEO of organisers, The Youth Company, Mohamed Farid said: “The conference is one of the most important components of the Run the World festival.  Yesterday, nearly 100 youth came up with four different projects that tackle sports issues faced by Qatar and the region.”
“The Youth Company has also announced a fund of QR100,000 to support youth initiatives in the region, and more specifically Qatar,” he added.
