Al-Mannai, Sheikha Aisha al-Thani, al-Nuami and Hamad Hamad al-Hijji at the press conference to announce the bronze sponsor
Qatar Vinyl Company Limited (QVC), the leading provider of vinyl and caustic products, will be the bronze sponsor of the fourth Reach Out To Asia (Rota) gala dinner on December 12, it has been announced.
“Qatar Vinyl Company is proud to contribute to Rota’s long term plans for a better future and education for all across Asia. In addition, the company’s sponsorship demonstrates our support for HH the Heir Apparent’ s vision to maintain a just and caring Qatari society,” QVC chief executive officer Hamad Rashed al-Nuami said.
“Rota’s gala dinner is the highlight of Qatar’s social calendar and we are delighted to welcome QVC to participate in such an illustrious occasion,” Rota board member Sheikha Dr Aisha bint Faleh al-Thani said.
An elite group comprising some 500 very important personalities, celebrities, entertainers, business leaders and statesmen from Qatar and beyond are expected at the Katara Cultural Village for the dazzling four-hour gala and charity auction.
The Saudi business tycoon Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal will be amongst the distinguished guests. In addition, works of art from Al Koora Art Project will be displayed and put up for auction during the event.
Al Koora Art Project was developed by Rota’s Volunteer Programme, an initiative focused on community service and fostering a spirit of volunteerism in Qatar.  The programme coordinates initiatives with partners that achieve a positive impact for a diverse range of beneficiaries both within Qatar and in other countries.
The Al Koora Art Project engages children with special needs from seven different institutions, namely the Dhreima Orphanage, Al Noor Institute for the Blind, Best Buddies Qatar, the Qatari Centre of Social Cultural for the Deaf, Hope Qatar, the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs and the Qatar Paralympic Rehabilitation of Special Needs, to participate in a series of art workshops held at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQ).
Along with VCUQ students, aspiring Qatari artists and volunteers, children created works of art that represented different elements of Qatar, its people, and its natural environment, in the past, present and future.
The theme was reflected through artistic expression such as painting, drawing and poetry.
Funds raised during the gala dinner will enable Rota to continue educational and community projects in Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
In Qatar, Rota’s achievements over the past two years were made possible by the support of the corporate donors.
These achievements include the Wheels ‘n’ Heels community event in 2010 which is coming back in February 2012.
“In towns and villages across Asia there are still far too many young people who are poor; not because they do not want to work, not because they lack intelligence, not because they lack ambition. They are poor because they are deprived of educational opportunities that are freely available to children in more prosperous countries,” Sheikha Dr Aisha al-Thani noted.
“We are thrilled to be able to host our fourth gala dinner with the support of bronze sponsor QVC. The funds raised at this event will enable Rota to continue our vital education development programmes during 2012 and beyond,” Rota director Essa al-Mannai said.
