British golfing legend, Colin Montgomerie yesterday gave a coaching clinic before taking to the course at the Doha Golf Club with a number of officials and guests as part of HSBC ‘Corporate Golf Day.’
The winner of eight Order of Merit titles expressed his excitement at being back in Qatar, but admitted that he was feeling the effects of jetlag, having only concluded his final round at St Andrews for the Alfred Dunhill Classic on Sunday afternoon.  Montgomerie was teamed with US actor, Michael Douglas for the tournament, where the pair finished in a disappointing joint 100th place, having won back in 2005.
However, Montgomerie showed no signs of weariness as he prepared for a day on the course in Doha yesterday.
“It’s fantastic to be back on a course we all love to play,” he said, adding “I am looking forward to coming back in February to compete as well.”
“It’s super to be back in Doha!” he added.
Ahead of his activities on the course, the Scot discussed the current number one golfer in the world, Luke Donald, expressing his belief that the young Englishman will continue to solidify his place at the top of the sport this year.
And he also spoke about former world number one, Tiger Woods, saying that he will surely win tournaments again in the future, but pointed out that the upcoming year will be the most important for the former superstar’s attempt to rebuild his career.
Montgomerie has never won a major himself, but has gained legendary status by virtue of his stunning Ryder Cup performances over the years as a player, and last year as the victorious captain, an accolade he said he never tires of hearing about.
After turning 48 earlier this year, Monty is entering the veteran stage of his career.  However, he assured those in attendance yesterday that he is as hungry for success as ever, saying that he feels as motivated about playing golf at the moment as at any other moment during his career.
He referred to other golfers entering the twilight of their careers but still putting in impressive performances and winning tournaments regularly, saying that if they can achieve, then he feels confident that he can as well.
