Action from the Al Gharafa al-Shahaniya match in the QSL yesterday.

Al Gharafa leapt to fourth position in the Qatar Stars League with a 3-0 rout of Al Shahaniya in a one-sided match yesterday.

The winners scored all their goals in the first session for only their fourth victory in seven matches which took their tally to 13 points.

Al Sadd are leading the race with 19 points followed by Lekhwiya and El Jaish with 18

and 15 respectively.

Al Gharafa, who were once a formidable force in the QSL but have fallen on bad times, struck through Argentinan striker Lisandro Lopez in the 13th minute and never looked back.

Brazlian Nene and Qatar’s Moayed Hassan put the issue beyond doubt with goals in the 31st and 45th minute respectively to complete the rout although Al Shahaniya came up with a much improved show in the second session during which they didn’t concede any goal.

Yesterday’ loss was Al Shahaniya’s fifth in seven matches, the minnows languishing in 13th position in the 14-team tournament.

Meanwhile Umm Salal edged Al Arabi 1-0 courtesy of a 22nd minute header by Abdulqadir Ilyas.

Ilyas was perfectly placed to nod the ball home after Turkish midfielder Tuncay Sanli had cut through the defence on the right before crossing the ball into the penalty area.

Umm Salal are now in seventh spot after their third win in seven matches.

The big guns Lekhwiya, Al Sadd and El Jaish are all in action today with five matches scheduled to be played.
