The illicit drug that was found in a traveller's bag at HIA.

Doha

An attempt to smuggle 6kg of marijuana into Qatar by a passenger coming from an Asian country was thwarted at the Hamad International Airport by officials attached to the General Authority of Customs (GAC).
A Customs inspector at HIA grew suspicious when, during a routine X-ray screening of baggage, he saw a package wrapped in an unusual manner.
The official informed his colleague to search the bag, resulting in the discovery of the illicit drug which was tightly wrapped in sackcloth. The passenger was arrested and the drug confiscated.
A report was filed by the HIA staff and the security department concerned was called to initiate the necessary legal proceedings.
The inspector, who made the discovery, has been working at GAC for many years. He said: "I noticed on the X-ray machine's monitor that the content of this bag was different from the usual travellers’ bags. So I closely inspected it on the machine and thought there were clear indications that the bag should be opened and searched manually."
Ahmed bin Ali al-Muhannadi, GAC president, honoured the employee who made the discovery, stressing that all employees of the GAC are exerting great efforts to hinder such destructive substances from entering the country.
Ahmed Essa al-Muhannadi, assistant president of GAC, said that such success of GAC inspectors and personnel affirms the importance of the sophisticated training they regularly receive.
