HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani opened the 15th Gulf Disability Society Forum in Doha Marriot Hotel yesterday.
The forum is organised by the Gulf Disability Society and Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, with the participation of various bodies and institutions in charge of people with disabilities.
In remarks to the opening session, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior said the meeting reflected the growing importance attached by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to scientific and humanitarian issues, adding that the Emir had on many occasions highlighted the status of people with disabilities in the society, as well as the continued care and support that should be provided to them.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that the meeting would contribute to enhancing the quality of services extended to people with disabilities in the GCC countries in general and Qatar in particular.
The Prime Minister also hailed the care and support given by the government of the State of Qatar as well as the establishment of rehabilitation centres, institutes and the specialised disability centres for education and training.
These facilities did not ignore the social and physical aspects to help alleviate the suffering of people with disabilities and their families, he said, attributing this to the policy pursued by the Emir in the service and care of people with disabilities.
HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani hoped that more efforts will be made in the service of people with disabilities.
On the occasion, the Gulf Disability Society awarded honorary membership to HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani in recognition of his efforts and support to integrate the people with disability in the society.
