CMC chairman leading delegation to Tehran

A Central Municipal Council (CMC) delegation headed by its chairman Saud al-Hinzab is visiting the Iranian capital, Tehran. The visit comes in response to an invitation from Baqir Sakhai, chairman of the Qatar-Iran Friendship Committee. The visit aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences pertaining to various municipal affairs and their role in development. The CMC team will get introduced to a number of urban development advancements and municipal services in Tehran. The CMC team would also look to further develop friendly relations among the parties concerned to help boost forward mutual co-operation efforts in fields that improve the lives of inhabitants in the country, such as basic services, roads and the strategy of municipal councils there and the way they function.

The council has conducted a number of similar visits to different cities around the world to benefit from their experiences.

SCH signs
MoU with US university

The headline for the report on the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with  Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in the United States, published on Page 10 of Gulf Times on September 11,  wrongly mentioned the council as SEC. The error is regretted. The MoU is part of SCH’s efforts to broaden its scope of partnerships with leading global academic institutions in order to improve the skills and professional capabilities of its health professionals.

WCMC-Q invites graduates to
research training

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar’s (WCMC-Q) Biomedical Research Training Programme for Nationals will recommence in January 2015. The research training programme, inspired by Qatar National Vision 2030 for the country to develop a knowledge-based economy, provides an opportunity for Qatari college graduates with an interest in biomedical research to gain hands-on experience in world-class research laboratories at WCMC-Q, according to a statement. Although the programme is aimed at recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career as a bench or clinical researcher, or research administrator, applications will be welcomed from nationals with a variety of degrees, for example computer science, business management or communication. The training programme is a full-time, six-month employment commitment with trainees receiving a graduation certificate upon completion. The trainees are paid a stipend as part of a comprehensive compensation package. The programme is fully funded by WCMC-Q and organised in partnership with the Qatar Science Leadership Programme at Qatar Foundation. Applications can be submitted online until October 28.
